When you test a processor cooler there are two ways to approach this, either you chose to test the cooler with a real processor or you use a die simulator. The latter is a machine that simulate the heat dissipation of a processor core and makes it much easier to test many coolers and still get reliable comparisons. This has it drawbacks though while testing with a regular processor also has its positive sides.
