Nicholas Negroponte, the man behind the $100 laptop, earlier held a presentation for a group representing the Indian government. He had suggested that India would invest in 1 million laptops supplying the country’s children with laptops. I.e. a total cost of $100 million, which would then had to come from money that would’ve been used to support other public means. And unfortunately the Indian governement feels it can’t justify the purchase of 1 mllion laptops for the children but sees better things to spend $100 million on.
