Only a few weeks after the launch of the AMD Athlon64 and the processors are already establishing itself in Sweden, a sign not to be taken for granted. It is now time for the third Athlon64 type; the Athlon64 DTR.
It is in fact the first mobile processor that is based upon the Hammer-architecture, yet honestly there isn’t much that differs it from it’s desktop cousin. The suffix DTR stand for Desktop Replacement and sort of indicates it being a Athlon64 3200+ for a mobile computer. AMD claims to have performed changes to improve the demands on power-consumption and heat-dissipation but even on the paper very small changes has been made.
At Anandtech one has taken a look at this first laptop that uses this “new” AMD-processor, Voodoo Envy M:855. The laptop is also equipped with ATi’s Mobility Radeon 9600Pro, giving a shining performance, even compared to regular desktop-systems.
This is merely the first part of Anandtech’s review but there is much to find of interest through information and performance tests.
