I have full and complete understanding if you don’t know what the Dragon chip is since it’s not very often we hear anything about it, not even our friends in the east have much to share about it. Dragon is a processor developed by the Chinese government in an attempt to become more independent and the few reports we’ve received earlier on has shown that it seems China is doing a quite good job to. Its earlier processors had an incredibly high efficiency and performed very well despite low frequency and power consumption. Even if they are still a bit behind the companies in the west they are closing in.
The latest processor is Dragon-V running at 1GHz, a relatively low figure compared to many other CPUs, but if you compare that with that it performs like a Pentium 4 running at twice the frequency things are looking up. Any specific results or benchmarks are not available and all we have to rely on is a source in PeopleDaily, but we see no reason to doubt this considering the performance of the earlier processors.
The Dragon chip and its devlopment has been moving forward rapidly, without doubt. It is really only a matter of time before they are pretty much up to speed actually. The sad part about this is of course that we will most likely never even get closer to one of these as China will keep them for themselves.
