Small preview imageThe war between Sony and Microsoft has in most discussions been about the Xbox 360’s advantage due to its earlier launch versus PlayStation 3’s strong hold of the Japanese market. Also Sony’s venture with Blu-ray has been a big portion of the debate, but now analysts have chosen to go even further and say that the DVD format war may very well be what tips the scale between Xbox 360 and PS3, not the game portion. Analysts at Wedbush Morgan Securities claim that Microsoft will take the lead during the first two years thanks to its earlier launch, but that PS3 will be the dominating one when the next generaion arrives. A big reason for this is suppose to be that Sony and Blu-ray will win the DVD format battle that will start very soon.

“WMS says that the primary driver of next generation hardware sales will no longer be the amount or quality of videogame titles per console, but rather consumers’ willingness to adopt new high definition DVD formats.”
