The LackRack – €5 server rack, for real!

IKEA is almost omnipresent these days and one of the oldest and still popular series is the Lack series. Although, we’re pretty sure there aren’t that many who are using them as 19″ server racks, which it apparently works very well for. The inner measurements of IKEA’s square Lack table is exactly 19″ and fits perfectly as the world’s cheapest server rack.

LackRack quickly became an Internet meme after being shown at an event in the Netherlands. Even if LackRack came out in the open at eth0 Winter 2010, it has been rumored that Google technicians have been toying with the concept since last year, which wouldn’t surprise us the least.

At the eth0 wiki you can find more on the LackRack where this also pictures showing the perfect fit. IKEA’s Lack table can be had for as little as €5 and even through it may not be for the server room it is still an interesting and exciting solution for the home users. Although, it may not be the most durable solution.
