ATI isn’t exactly known for its excellent Linux support. The fact is that it’s little more than a year since we got a decent frequency of driver releases. But then again even though the frequency is better the actual updates were minor fixes of already long known problems. Now and then there have been new functions added, functions one would assume should’ve been there from the start, or at least a long time ago. At Phoronix they’ve published ATI AYiR 2006 where they summarize the last 12 months of driver releases from ATI for Linux. the performance curve is a sad sight. The acquisition by AMD doesn’t makes us feel any better, alas.
