Lately, more and more reports have been appearing telling us that even the music industry and record companies are skeptic of the restrictive DRM protection used with digital music. According to a survey made by Jupiter Research almost two thirds of the highest authorities in the music industry believe that they would probably sell more music if they stopped using DRM. Perhaps a sign for that, is that even the record companies and the music distributors have realized that the market have changed last few years, but at the same time many believe that the DRM technology will still be around for some time.

“Analyst Mark Mulligan, one of the authors of the report, said the survey was carried out between December and January. This was before Apple boss Steve Jobs published his thoughts on music DRM and galvanised the debate about these protection systems.”

In other words, it seems the music industry isn’t convinced that the highly criticized DRM system is the right way to go, but it still chooses to continue using it. The debate has certainly changed and perhaps, sometime in the future we will see less restrictions with digital media.
