OcPrices took seven thermal compounds, and tested them. Candidates were Artic Silver II & III, Artic Céramique, OCZ Ultra, Shin Etsu,Vapochill thermal compound and finally a no name, no future paste included with Soyo motherboard.
There has been some fuss about AMD supposed to void warranty when a compound, made with conductive elements was used. (See this article at Xtreme Tek). But as I was unable to find an official release from AMD about this, I dismissed that as being a rumour. AMD only recommended Shin Estu G 749.
If it is true (contacted AMD about it, if I get an answer, you’ll hear about it) that would surely make overclocking more difficult. Update: see this page from AMD… It gives a short list of recommended thermal pastes.
On the brigh side; Shin Etsu G751
appears to be the best one of the test…
