Thermaltake has launched its new Xpressar RCS100 computer case and it is really something out of the ordinary. Xpressar comes with a cooling system for the processor and not just any cooling. Thermaltake has installed a patented DC Inverter microcompressor cooling system inside the case, the first of its kind. Phase change cooling is usually seen in homemade units built for extreme overclocking, but this is something Thermaltake hopes to change. Xpressar RCS100 was shown in public at Computex, but it’s first now that it has been released.



The big news with Thermaltake’s phase change cooling, if you compare to similar products like Asetek VapoChill and OCZ Cryo-Z, is the format. Xpressar is not any larger than a regular fulltower, and inside you will not only find the components but also the entire cooling system. This was made possible through a microcompressor together with a relatively small radiator that needs a lot less space than the compressors we’re used to.


The compressor has a 50W power supply and has R134a gas flowing through the capillaries. Of course, this is not enough for any extreme temperatures but Thermaltake claims that the system will result in temperatures up to 20ºC lower than water cooling.



We will just have to wait and see how Xpressar and its integrated cooling system really works, but it is always nice to see innovative products, and the question if Thermaltake will revive a market that has been rather dead for long. As long as the price isn’t all too high they may have something.
