Sandy Bridge-E will arrive in Q4 and replace Intel’s fastest processors. The company will announce the LGA2011 platform for servers and enthusiasts where we already know that prices will be between $300 to $1,000. The frequencies will be between 3.3 and 3.6 GHz and the top model will sport 15MB cache.
Intel will according to a leaked roadmap launch three Sandy Bridge-E processors in Q4 to follow up with another three in Q1 2012. As previous stories have stated there will be relatively affordable models Sandy Bridge-E processors from day one. Intel positions its LGA2011 platform so that it starts where LGA1155 and Sandy Bridge left off.
The entry model is actually on the same market level as Intel Core i7-2600K (around $250) and sports four cores, 10MB cache and up to 3.6 GHz. Unlike its bigger brorthers the entry model isn’t enterily unlocked, the roadmap states limited unlocked, which is a definition new to us.
If we take one step up we find ourselves in the $600 price range and the first hexa-core Sandy Bridge-E processor. The frequency is turned down to 3.2 GHz, but the cache up to 12MB.
Last but definitely not least we have the top model set to replace the flagship Core i7-990X. As expected it will sport six cores, 3.3 GHz clock frequency and 15MB cache.
All processors will sport quad-channel memory controlelrs and be paired with Intel’s new X79 chipset. Exactly when in Q4 the launch will happen we don’t know.
