OMAP4 is a System-on-a-Chip solution much like NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 that not only brings a powerful dual-core CPU but also dedicate circuits for graphics, video and audio. Texas Instruments compared its OMAP4 platform with the acknowledged Tegra 2 platform a while back. Both are based on the same ARM architecture bu TI claims that it is able to offer better performance NVIDIA in several ways.

During MWC 2010 in Barcelona the company has revealed bits on the functions of the future that include 3D technology in smartbooks without glasses and new user interfaces for handhelds of all kinds, where simply motions of the hands can be used for navigation.

The 3-D technology wasn’t just for watching 3D material without glasses, but also take photos and record through dual camera sensors.

The cameras have enabled TI to build solutions where users can use motions in the air in front of the phone, or even facial expressions, to interact with the unit. A bit like Microsoft’s project Natal for Xbox 360.

These technologies has been gathered under the name HDI initiative (Human Device Interaction) will most likely not appear anytime this year, but OMAP4 products that launch in Q4 2010 will be the first hardware platform developed for supporting similar technologies.
