Toshiba is together with Sony and IBM the companies behind, what they call, the world’s most powerful mediaprocessor, namely Cell. Now Toshiba has announced another mediaprocessor that will be a configurable microprocessor made with 65nm manufacturing process working at 1GHz. The processor is a MeP (Media Embedded Processor) and geared towards future home electronics that requires a lot of performance for digital picture and sound, such as DVD-recorders and digital TVs. Since Cell has a very similar target this is most likely more of a low end alternative. Source: The Register
