Harddrive maker Toshiba has already adopted the new mini-SATA interface and presented the first Solid State Drive with the new SATA connector. By shrinking both power and data connectors mobile device manufacturers can trim additional millimeters from its already slim products. mSATA is intended for netbooks where the smaller SSDs are often enough.

Toshiba’s first mSATA Solid State Drive sports 30GB and 62GB storage capacity respectively and use 32nm technology to get there.

Transfer speeds are specified to 180MB/s at read and 70MB/s at read. They weigh 9g and measures 30mm x 4.75mm x 50.95mm, which should be small enough for most computers and mobile devices. More will follow in Toshiba’s footsteps and launch mini-SATA Solid State Drives.
