Toshiba has had it with the Blu-ray camp’s “we’ve won” propaganda and officially denied the fact that the format war is over. It undermined the proposed movies sales figures while presenting its own sales of stationary HD DVD players. Another important announcement has now been made and this one speaks even more in favor of the HD DVD format. Toshiba has namely announced that it will lower prices of its stationary HD DVD player on April 1st. Toshiba HD-A2 and Toshiba HD-A20 will become 100 USD cheaper. From 499 USD to 399 USD (HD-A2) and 599 USD down to 499 USD (HD-A20) respectively.
Toshiba HD-A2, which will now cost less than 400 USD, is the cheapest stationary HD player on the market and it is hardly a coincidence that Sony recently launched a new budget Blu-ray player called BDP-300, costing a mere 599 USD. This doesn’t help us consumers that much though as we still don’t know what HD format that will come out on top, but on the other hand it gets cheaper and cheaper to venture for a guess.
