Toshiba HD-XA1 is the first HD DVD player to arrive as it was launched in Japan at the end of last week. The price of the player is now set to 110,000 Yen, which roughly converts to $940. There aren’t any movies or other HD DVD media to play with Toshiba’s player yet thoguh as the movie studios have delayed the launch of their creations until later this month. The price of Toshiba HD-XA1 is expected to be $799 when it will be launched in the USA during April and except from this lower price Toshiba is expected to launch a “low cost player” at $499. Still a hefty price to pay and, alas, we in the North with our higher taxes will most likely have to pay even more, but in comaprison with Sony’s first Blu-ray player costing about $1000 it is still quite affordable.
