Toshiba is one of the main actors behind the HD DVD format which will be battling with Blu-ray on who will become the next generation optical storage. It recently got some backup from both Microsoft and Intel and has now announced it will launch a laptop with HD DVD-ROM player at the beginning of next year. This will be the first notebook equipped with a HD DVD unit and it will primarily only be available on the Japanese market. It will also equip the portable computer with a high resolution LCD-display that will be able to make use of the HD DVD-format.
