Toshiba has been offering its first generation of HD DVD players to the American market for a couple of months now and the cheapest model can be purchased for a mere 499 USD. Now that Toshiba is planning to launch its players in Europe it will, as usual, result in higer prices. Toshiba announced during IFA in Berlin that it will launch two models in Europe costing between 599-999 euro. Considerably higher than the prices in the USA, even when take taxes and currency into consideration. Toshiba admitted to this though and claimed that the prices were higher since the European players are both slimmer and comes with more features. If you want to stay on top you have to pay up and we’re truly looking forward to seeing the first high-res formats in Europe, which actually seems to be getting close.
