Intel was first to announce Solid State Drives using 34nm technology, but the competition is not far behind. Toshiba has announced that it has developed new SSDs using 43nm NAND flash memory circuits and that these have started shipping to several major OEM partners. So far Toshiba’s 43nm SSD are only available through these OEMs, unlike Intel’s X25-M G2 family.

Toshiba has developed several models using both the 1.8″ and 2.5″ format with storage capacities of 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB (only 2.5″). Other specifications says that the SSDs has a maximal read speed of 230MB/s and 180MB/s write speed.

Since Toshiba’s devices are only only shipping to OEMs at this point we have not prices to fall back on, but most likely it has managed to cut them lower than the previous generation, even if the jump from 50nm to 43nm, isn’t as great as Intel’s leap to 34nm.
