The reports on cuts being made in the electronics business are really coming by the minute and of the latest are from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) which will axe 5% of its workforce, this equals about 1000 people, in 2009. After many of TSMC’s clients decided to let people go and reduce their orders it comes as no surprise that TSMC has to do the same. However, TSMC says that it will not be firing people but simply look over the productivity of their employees and reorganize within the company. Something that competing circuit manufacturers are doing, but UMC and SMIC is yet to announce any changes.
