Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake) is without doubt one of the most anticipated launches this year, no matter if it’s Linux or not. A bit like Windows Vista but without the delays or “features” that cause people to break out into furious debates one way or another. Two versions have been made available for download as ISO-files, Desktop and Server. Ubuntu 6.06 is the first distribution from the developers to offer a long term support, 5 years, and with this distribution they hope to break into company offices, mainly small businesses we assume.
That is also what Linux-watch has concluded in its review of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. The distribution that was released on the first of June gives an overall good impression disregarding the few minor glitches you can expect from new distributions, but these should be fixed soon. A good review offereing a decent description of what Ubuntu wants to accomplish with version 6.06.
Anyhow, the basic idea with Ubuntu is that things are suppose to be easy. Both for desktop users companies. Both installations have been optimized to make the usable for regular human beings and not necesserily a hardcore Linux guru. For those who just wants to try out the new distribution there are Live CDs to download and burn onto a disc. With these you just try out working in the Ubuntu environment without installing anything.
