USB 3.0 is the third and next generation of the USB interface, and the first specifications are expected to arrive in June of this year. At CES in Las Vegas, the consortium has presented the new sockets that will be used on motherboards and other products designed for USB 3.0, but also the cables. As USB 3.0 will be backwards compatible with USB and USB 2.0 the exterior is pretty much the same, but when you get beneath the casing you notice some bigger differences. USB 3.0 will namely offer speeds up to 4.7Gb/s, ten times the speed of USB 2.0 (480Mb/s).
