It seems that VIA Technology VP and General Manager of the Platform Business division, Chewei Lin, will leave VIA for ASMedia. He will also take 40 of VIA’s chipset engineers with him, DigiTimes reports. The ASUS subsidiary ASMedia is an IC (Integrated Circuit) design company. The reason is suppose to be the uncertain future of VIA’s chipsets and the hard competition from Intel, AMD/ATI and NVIDIA. VIA on the other hand says that it is unaware of any group resignation and that it is normal for employees to leave a company after such a big reorganization like the one VIA is going through. While we certainly don’t believe that ASUS will start marking chipsets it could certainly add another dimension to ASUS motherboards.
