VIA CN896 is the latest chipset from circuit manufacturer VIA and as expected it is a solution for the small, integrated systems. VIA CN896 has an integrated graphics circuit in the form of VIA Chrome9 HC, which through its support for DirectX9.0 also brings a Windows Vista certification, although only Vista Basic. The new chipset will be paired with VIA C7/C7-D or VIA Eden processors which are also ready for Windows Vista despite the relatively low performance. VIA is focusing on extremely power-efficient and small systems and with VIA CN896 it shows that there is no lack of support for the very latest software, which in this case if Microsoft’s new operating system Windows Vista.
“Designed to provide OEMs with a platform for power efficient, affordable embedded and desktop systems, the VIA CN896 IGP chipset is fully certified with the Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Basic Logo. Features include the highly efficient VIA V4 bus interface, advanced power management, support for DDR2 and PCI Express, and outstanding flexibility with display options.”
