It wasn’t long ago VIA announced its latest x86 processor, dubbed Isaiah. The processor is targeted at the exact same market as Intel’s recently unveiled Silverthorne processor, also known as Atom. While Atom has a lower specified TDP (0.6-2.5W vs. 3.5W) it also has a much simpler in-order design, while the Isaiah can decode up to three x86 instructions per clock cycle, which should make it the better performer of the two.
We know since earlier that Intel is planning to launch a dual-core Atom processor this Fall, and according to a recent blog post made by Brooke Crothers over at cnet, so is VIA. No details were given, but we’re certainly looking forward to hearing more about this.
I’m not sure how this happened, but for some reason the extreme low-end of the market has gotten really interesting all of a sudden…
