Financial crisis and economical recession are expressions mentioned way too often in the news reports these days and the effects of this are starting to make an imprint on our daily lives. Despite these depressing reports, survey company NPD Group, Inc. has presented some surprising numbers for the video game sales in USA. The sales have doubled since October, but also increased by 10% year to year.
- Wii – 2.04 million units
- Nintendo DS – 1.57 million units
- Xbox 360 – 836,000 units
- PSP – 421,000 units
- PlayStation 3 – 378,000 units
- PlayStation 2 – 206,000 units
Nintendo leads the sales with the two best selling consoles, with a huge margin; Wii and Nintendo DS. Wii is outselling the closest competitor Xbox 360 by more than 2 to 1 and Nintendo DS is outselling the PSP by almost 4 to 1. The biggest loser is PlayStation 3 that actually sold close to 100,000 consoles less than November 2007. It remains to be seen if the trend continues after Christmas or if the narrower budgets will have an impact on the video games market as well.
