Those of you having problems with the computer shutting down spontaniously after displaying an error dialog box about a RPC that didn’t come through, should immediately visit Windows Update and download the latest updates.
If you’re unable to do so, it’s also possible to visit our friends at the Swedish hardware site Sweclockers. To make life easier for non-Swedish users, I’ve included two links to the updates, which you can find for Windows XP here and for Windows 2000 here, respectively.

As is, it seems that all versions of Windows NT are affected by the virus (NT 4.0, 2000, XP and 2003). It’s also confirmed that no update will be released for Windows NT 4.0.
The patch has been out for nearly a month, which you might have read on the Microsoft homepage. Consider this a lesson to all of you that’s been striked to always keep your software updated continuously. Especially when it’s so easily done through Windows Update.
Finally, Symantec has uploaded a removal tool that kills the virus if you happen to be infected. However, you’ll still need the patches to prevent future infections. Download the tool here.
