We had to wait three years for this, but finally it’s here, the first real review of a 3dfx Voodoo 5 6000 AGP 128 MB. Earlier we reported about Sudhians triology about 3dfx and now it’s time for part two, where they take a look on the card 3dfx never managed to release.
They run many tests and we see that the card appearently had a whole lot to give. If 3dfx had survived and continued with developing drivers this would’ve been something really pleasant, probably. As it looks today the card performs like something between a GeForce 2 Ultra and a GeForce 3; not bad at all. Keep in mind that it should’ve been released during the GeForce 2 era.
Sad to say, but they don’t look into one of the most interesting aspects: FSAA-quality and FSAA-performance. Not until ATi launched their Radeon 9700 Pro we could see FSAA of the same superb quality as 3dfx could offer two years before ATis monstercard. The performance was nothing to conceal either, it should’ve given the GeForce 2 Ultra a slap with the trout.
