Warner goes for hybrid HD DVD

0

Warner Home Video will be the first to launch an HD DVD disc with two versions of the movie, one high-res version for HD DVD players and one standard definition for regular DVD players. This is a concept we’ve seen earlier with DVD and CD combos and now Warner has announced that the movie “Rumor Has It” will be the first movie to use this hybrid format. The technology simply works so that on one side you have a HD DVD layer with the high-res movie and the other side has a DVD layer with the regular version of the movie. This movie is expected to arrive on May 9 and to those who are thinking about sharing the movie with friends and neighbours that only have a regular DVD this could be an interesting alternative, but this of course comes at a price, $39.99, while a regular HD DVD movie costs $29.99.
