Western Digital is said to be preparing the launch of its record-size harddrive Caviar Green WD20EADS. WD’s latest monster harddrive will sport a total 2TB storage capacity and will become the most spacious drive on the market, trumping Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 currently leading the pack at 1.5TB. Western Digital’s new harddrive will offer 25% more storage and other specifications are said to include 32MB cache and 8.9ms search time. The latter depends on whether you god for the 7200RPM model or the more modest 5400RPM model.

Since the harddrive is a member of the Caviar Green series this means that drive should be an optimal choice for those looking to expand the server storage with a power efficient and quiet harddrive.

According to the information posted, Western Digital will launch Caviar Green WD20EADS this week. The price is estimated to land at about €160-180 and we would not be surprised if other manufacturers follow. Seagate could do it with its latest Barracuda 7200.12 series
