Those of you who have been around for a while are well familiar with Asetek and its VapoChill and WaterChill product lines. If you’re new to the game, the name Asetek might not mean that much, because the company hasn’t made much fuss over the last few years. Both the phase change compressor coolers, and the water cooling blocks and kits were extremely popular among overclockers. But then all of a sudden Asetek went quiet. A while back, CEO André Eriksen launched a blog, where he’s now posted the first of two parts which will explain what happened to Asetek.
If you were there when Asetek launched its first compressor coolers you’re in for a nostalgic ride, if you weren’t you will still get a good overview of Asetek’s history. The company started as a strict enthusiast company focusing on compressor cooling and later moving into water cooling as compressor cooling became a bit too exclusive. You perhaps remember the Antarctica block? It sure brings back memories for yours truly.
It was about then when Asetek realized that it had to come up with something new. The competition had now grown strong and it took a lot of time and money to remain the industry leader. Asetek then decided to use it’s experience to develop products directly for OEM PCs. And that’s where we are today…
