Sony has prolonged its streak of infamous statements about the competition and this time its Nintendo and its success with Wii which has been the target. “Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else” was uttered by David Karraker, SCEA senior director of corporate communication. The same thing was said about Nintendo DS and as far as we know DS has more or less crushed PSP and if the same will happen with these two remains to be seen, but it’s hard not to see parallels, but you also have to acknowledge the differences as PS3 above all has coming and very promising games PSP has no direct equivalents to.
Xbox 360 is still the leading console, while Wii is the best selling and PS3 slowly marching on. Although, something which they all have in common is the lack of big titles. PS3 suffers badly from this, Wii only has Zelda and its sports games, while Xbox 360 has during its whole year produced relatively little of exceptional interest. The year to come will offer a much better insight in what we should be able to expect in the future.
By the looks of its Microsoft has managed to establish Xbox 360 by launching the console way ahead of the rest. If it had launched the console at the same time as Wii and PS3 we have a hard time imagining the same success then, something we’re certain Microsoft also realized. The question is if Xbox 360 will remain dominant when Playstation 3 gains momentum, even if Microsoft considers Nintendo the biggest threat.
