Nintendo Wii is as you know no performance freak and where both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have chosen to go with HD resolution Wii has chosen a different path. Wii will not support any of the high-res formats and the console will only come with composite cables, which will hardly result in an optimal image quality. Many have been wondering what Nintendo has done to support the large amount of flatscreen TVs that is available today and where a progressive picture is a must for a decent experience. The answer has now come in the form of confirmed 480p support and a component cable kit, which will be available on launch day. The cables will allow a progressive 480p picture at 16:9 format, something practically all games will support.
