Windows 7 is about to enter the Release Candidate stage and even there are plenty things to solve it seems like Windows 7 will be Microsoft’s fastest operating system for a long time. Early benchmarks with beta versions of Windows 7 it has shown that Microsoft’s new OS isn’t just faster than Windows Vista but also Windows XP on most occasions. That Microsoft has focused on the performance with its new operating system makes sense since Vista was criticized for lacking just that. But the perhaps biggest reason for Microsoft’s numerous optimizations is spelled n-e-t-b-o-o-k-s.
Netbooks are small and cheap computers whose biggest drawback is the lack of powerful hardware. Intel’s Atom processor is no speed demon and 1GB RAM has become the standard with the platform, which is barely enough to run the desktop in Windows Vista.
The netbook market has been growing exponentially and Microsoft just have to get its new operating system into this segment to stay competitive. The software giant has been working its ass off to optimize the performance of Windows 7 and the results can be seen today already. You might think that netbooks is really a step down on the evolutionary ladder as it doesn’t really offer acceptable performance, but perhaps we can simply look at this as a way for Microsoft to get serious and develop its fastest operating system yet.
