Even though Microsoft has waited with releasing the official prices of Windows 7 it has been a hot topic around the web. Most agree that Windows 7 is a very good operating system, but at the same time it very much alike Windows Vista and in many ways Microsoft just got a do-over. Charging full price for an upgrade, even though a big one, of Windows Vista has been frowned upon. Microsoft is proud of its new operating system and it shows now that the prices have been released.



The prices are about the same as when Windows Vista launched, except the popular Home Premium version that becomes around $40 cheaper.

For 200 dollars you can pick up a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium while you can upgrade your current copy of Vista Home Premium to the Windows 7 equivalent for 120 bucks.


The Professional and Ultimate versions of Windows 7 are priced about the same as Vista even if Vista Ultimate can be found for much less today.


These are the retail prices, student and OEM prices haven’t been revealed yet, but these are most likely going to be about the same as for when Windows Vista was released.
