Microsoft is steamrolling the market with the sales of its new Windows 7 operating system and recently it reached another milestone, 5% of the total operating system market. These numbers are from measurements of computers connected to the Internet and according to Net Applications, Microsoft’s latest OS is now more common than all Mac OS X versions combined. The number of users moved back and forth over 5% during the week November 15-21st, but the average show Apple still in the lead, with a tiny tiny margin.
Up until now the user count should have stabilized above 5%, which was to be expected considering the large number of PC computers around the globe.
All in all, Microsoft owned 92.64% f the operating system market that week, which is slightly more than the same week of October.
With a week left in November, Windows 7 currently sports a 3.9% monthly average. At its current pace, it will reach 4% for the month, which means Microsoft’s newest OS will have easily beaten Vista’s first four months of market share gains.
The next step is to catch up to Windows XP that has been leading the charts way too long by now, mostly thanks to Windows Vista being such a huge disappointment for many.
