Linux is claimed to be able to run on practically everything. Something which is a real thorn in the side of Microsoft as its operating system has rumour of being far from light. Well over at Microsoft they decided to investigate whether the first mentioned is true or not. Although they did it with certain ground rules: Only use the large, commercial distributions and all tests are ran out-of-the-box. Their results are not very surprising and shows that Windows XP and 2003 work just as well as Linux when it comes to picking OS for an older computer. This of course only applies if your completely unfamiliar with how to optimize a Linux distribution.
