Microsoft has recently released Release Candidate 1 of Service Pack 2 for Windows XP (all versions). In the new version there is among others quite alot of security fixes, a hugely upgraded firewall, a new version of DirectX 9, a pop up blocker for Internet Explorer, access to Windows Update v.5 etc.
We have tested the different beta versions and the last versions have worked without any flaws. The reason it says “Beta” in the headline is that this isn’t a beta version but a release candidate. A release candidate can be described as the last step before the final release. This is nothing “to be afraid of” in other words. Should you contrary to what I’ve said have problems, uninstalling it is a piece of cake.
The only major problem we have encountered is that Java doesn’t work when Service Pack 2 is installed.
