Microsoft had a really rough time one the Japanese market with its first Xbox console and when it launched Xbox 360 it had put a lot of effort into making it more Asia-friendly. Even if Xbox 360 did better than the predecessor Microsoft still has a long, long way to go before it will be able to compete with the native console manufacturers. According to MCV Microsoft has sold 180 000 Xbox 360 consoles in Japan up until now. You can compare this to the 190,000 PS3 consoles which was in a few weeks, or the 400,000 Wiis that was sold during the first week.

Microsoft has as usual a strong position in the USA, and Europe, but the Japanese market is completely different. Even if the RPG Blue Dragon did manage to catch the Japanese’ attention.

“Still, Microsoft has at least some good news to celebrate. Last week saw the release Microsoft’s hotly tipped RPG Blue Dragon, and Japanese gamers reportedly queued up to get their hands on the game or the hardware bundle.”
