Xbox 360 has had some problems with overheating and similar problems since the launch. One reasons could of course be the advanced circuits carrying high power consumption which in turn means loads of heat. Because of this it is very nice to hear that Microsoft has made an agreement with Chartered Semiconductor to switch manufacturing process for the video game console’s CPU from 90nm to 65nm. A transition to 65nm would first of all mean a cooler CPU as Microsoft will not raise the frequency, while the size of the circuit will be reduced and result in lower manufacturing costs. Something that hopefully will result in cheaper consoles. The transition is not expected to happen until the first quarter of 2007 though, but a cooler and cheaper Xbox 360 is sounding quite attractive at the moment.
