The HD DVD unit for Xbox 360 will be connected to the console through the USB interface and considering this it should be very much possible to plug the player into your computer. Earlier on there have been great hopes that this will be possible and now Microsoft has confirmed that you can connect the HD DVD player to a computer. You will be able to connect the HD DVD unit to a PC through its USB interface but Microsoft will not release any software for Windows sporting HD DVD playback from the unit. But as it is a regular Toshiba HD DVD unit which Microsoft uses it should be a minor thing for coders to develop a software supporting the player.
We should amost be able to take this for granted and it’s most likely just a matter of time before software companies or some private solves the puzzle. Anyway, it would be a nice trump for Microsoft and Xbox 360. With a price of $200 Xbox 360’s HD DVD unit will most likely be considerably cheaper than most other HD DVD players for computers, which might cause some concern among other manufacturers, but to us consumers things are looking very promising.
