Xbox 360 Live Vision Camera was made official earlier this year as an accessory for Xbox 360 users that would make it possible for them to interact better. The software is actually already installed for those who keep their systems up to date. Gamasutra has managed to get a closer look at the new accessory and it seems to be a quite potent product. The software opens up the possibility to manipualte the image in several ways, but what is most interesting is of course the camera’s role in games.
This could be either through motion detection or so called facemapping and it is actually a similar software being used with Xbox 360 as with EyeToy for Playstation 2, but with higher resolution and some manipulation possibilities.
The most interesting is of course the motion detection and even if this hasn’t been completeled yet from what it seems it still seems very promising. The camera seems quick and precise, but, alas, hasn’t been completed yet. This type of technology would then make it possible to create games that are similar to the ones that Wii has with its controller. Whether this is something game developers will go for in any greater extent and if it will be a hit remains to be seen.
