Xbox 360 will most likely receive numerous price cuts during its lifespan, but Microsoft has for long and in a very powerful way stated that there will be no such thing anytime soon (I.e: before Sony and Nintendo’s launches). DigiTimes reports something completely different though as they’ve received information from Taiwanese OEM component manufacturers that claims that Microsoft is negotiating with the component manufacturers for lower manufacturing costs for the console. According to this information Microsoft’s goal is to be able to drop the price of Xbox 360 Premium down to $300, from the $400 of today. This would mean that Microsoft would be abe to sell the Premium package + an external HD DVD player for less than what Sony’s cheapest PS3 video game console would cost, which then includes a Blu-ray player.

“The manufacturers estimate that the total production cost can be reduced by 15-20% due to diminishing costs for most components along with increasing production scales and decreasing defect rates, the sources pointed out.”

Microsoft Taiwan denies this information and says they’re completely off. We’ve been convinced for long that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will get some sort of boost before Sony and Nintendo launches their new consoles in November, but what it will be remains to be seen. Maybe just a better value?
