Xbox 360 reached Japan this weekend after earlier being launched in both North America and Europe. Xbox was more or less a complete failure in Japan and Microsoft has really put the effort into preventing anything from even remotely similar happening again. So if there is any market where Microsoft has been working hard, really hard, on marketing its new console it’s Japan; Lectures at universities, big advertising campaigns and other nifty ways for hyping its next generation gaming console.
Unfortunately it seems that Xbox 360 has gotten a near ice-cold reception by the Japanese. When Xbox was launched it sold 123,000 consoles the first three days. Xbox 360 has sold 62,000 during its first weekend and then there is a total of 159,000 consoles available. The reason is simply that there are no games that appeal to the Japanese at the moment. The game everyone is waiting for, even outside of Japan, is Dead or Alive 4, which will arrive at the end of the month and hopefully things will turn around by then.
