Xbox 360 is sold at a price that is lower than the manufacturing costs, a common thing when it comes to video game consoles. This means that Microsoft loses money for each console sold. This loss is made up for in other ways, mainly with the games, but there are more ways. Accessories is also a good source. At EETimes they’ve published an article about Xbox 360’s wireless controller and they conslude that the total cost for the material is about $11. Quite a margin to the store price at ~$50. Hopefully this is one of the ways that will make it possible for Microsoft to make ends meet. Source: EETimes
