Yahoo! has turned down the $42 billion offer from Microsoft. Yahoo! not only wants more money, but also seeks to remains independent (to any extent possible). The decision came surprisingly fast, but was not unexpected. Co-founder Jerry Yang wasn’t exactly ecstatic the last time Microsoft suggested a merger, and his views hasn’t changed noticeably since then. Microsoft on the other hand, is trying to persuade stock holders of the pros of the deal. Microsoft would’ve paid half in money and the rest in MS stock. According to The Times, Yahoo! is seeking to revive the merger plans with AOL (no source cited), but also looking into cooperating with Disney or Time-Warner.
