Cooler manufacturer Zalman has had some tough years and is now set to broaden into new markets. The company has revealed that it will get into storage and will do it together with both SandForce and JMicron, two of the most active chipset developers.
Zalman’s N series houses SSD processors from SandForce and will offer storage capacities at 64GB and 128GB. If the efficient storage capacity is the same we don’t know, since SandForce drives dedicate parts of the surface for cache – which is why we often see 100GB or 120GB drives when SandForce is involved.
The specifications of the N series tells us of the read and write speeds of 280 MB/s and 270 MB/s respectively. As expected there is support for TRIM and SATA 3.0 Gbps.
Zalman’s S series builds on SSD controllers made by JMicron and even if it hasn’t specified which it has chosen to specify the read and write speeds to 260 MB/s and 210 MB/s, but the smaller models 32GB and 64GB comes with lower write speeds, 60MB/s and 120 MB/s.
