Zotac is one of NVIDIA’s closest partners and have never been afraid of launching overclocked GeForce cards. Its latest creation is something out of the ordinary though. The sight is set for extreme GeForce GTX 580 models from competing companies and it charges with a custom PCB and 18 power phases.

Zotac GeForce GTX 580 Extreme Edition will most likely be the name of the card and the company has done its best to live up to it. The card builds on a custom PCB that is slightly larger to make room for the huge power supply Zotac has installed.

All in all we find 18 phases whereof 16 goes to the GPU and the other two to the GDDR5 memory. It goes even further and use tantalum capacitors with circuits capacitors and inductors. The voltage department is capable of giving the graphics circuit up to 500 watt, if needed. With two 8-pins power connectors the maximal power consumption is limited to 450 watt, which will hopefully be enough for most.

Beside an overdimensioned power supply Zotac GeForce GTX 580 Extreme Edition also has a cooler that literally stands out. A heatspreading heatsink is first attached to the memory circuits and mosfets while a mighty aluminum heatsink with six 6 mm heatpipes cool the GPU. On the heatsink we find not one, but two 120mm fans for dispersing the heat. The I/O bracket have dual DVI-I outputs and one HDMI and one DisplayPort port.

The result of this will be a GPU frequency at 850 MHz, 1700 MHz shaders and 4400 MHz GDDR5 memory, which can be compared to 772/1544/4008 MHz on the reference cards. Launch date and price not available at the time.
