When NVIDIA drops the Fermi bomb by the end of March we will get the first retail cards in the form of GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470. Like most fresh launches the cards will be using NVIDIA’s reference design, but already partners are working on custom versions and Zotac has revealed to us that it is planning overclocked models of GeForce GTX 480 part of the classic AMP! Edition series.
Zotac is expected to cross over entirely to its own designs and says that it is one of NVIDIA’s strongest launch partners for the GeForce GTX 400 series. Here is what Zotac has to say about the AMP! series;
Too much is never enough when it comes to 3D performance. The ZOTAC AMP! Edition graphics cards start where the ZOTAC GeForce-series leaves off. Starting with a ZOTAC GeForce-series as the baseline, ZOTAC AMP! Editions go through rigorous tweaking and tuning to extract additional performance from the GeForce graphics processors, yielding unprecedented performance in its class.
The focus is on factory overclocked cards and according to the company it will not be charging any ridiculous amounts for the AMP! Editions. If the card is 15% faster than the reference the price will reflect that.
Custom cards is always positive to us and we are a bit eager to see what Zotac will bring to market and for that matter what other companies will do to NVIDIA’s new family of graphics cards.
