Motherboard manufacturer Zotac is one of NVIDIA’s closest partners and has a weakness for small feature-rich motherboards, where it has earlier launched a mini-ITX model of NVIDIA’s GeForce 9300 chipset. Representatives at Zotac has revealed that it is planning to launch a platform on a not yet announced NVIDIA-based platform and it is none less than the renowned Ion platform. Zotac will probably not be the first desktop platform based on Ion, but it claims to be one of the first with NVIDIA’s new and debated platform.
Zotac is expected to pair the motherboard with Intel’s Atom 330 processor and become a decent foundation for minimalistic HTPC systems or slim office PCs. Price and availability for such a platform is yet to be announced, but if NVIDIA gets its way this will only be one out of many Ion-based platforms.
